SPIRAL - SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER UNIZA - PROJECT

The University of Žilina plans to build an expressive architectural volume above the car park which will house a science and technology centre. The VAN JARINA studio designed it as building with an atrium dominated by a statue symbolizing "birth" - developed by the sculptor Bohuš Kubinský.

Situating incubators within the campus for start-up companies that work with the University brings a chance to develop applied research and provides palpable support to young graduates. The dynamic shape aims to be attractive to young researchers by visually evoking technological progress, but also to the scientific community by integrating progressive technical solutions. A green roof connects the individual floors and naturally regulates water and thermal regime. The spatial design of the spiral places emphasis on vertical and horizontal openness towards the park.
