THE TOWN SQUARE OF ST. FLORIAN

THE TOWN SQUARE OF ST. FLORIAN

As part of the revitalization of the Stara Bystrica town square a drop-in centre has been created for the young people of the town. There they can relax under the covered bridge and on the wharf close to the stream. The renovation of the park and the pavements was inspired by the legend of St. Florian, the patron saint of protection against natural disasters. The visitors are reminded of the troubles that the community has suffered by means of memorial plaques that have been placed around the park. The paving stones have a motive of a mill-wheel which is related thematically to the legend of St. Florian whose statue dominates the park. The central area of the square is complemented by a fountain that is built into the paving and where the children can play. In the evening people can enjoy a colorful ‘son et lumiere’ spectacle at the fountain.
